- 17th Australasian Conference on Cave and Karst Management, Buchan, Victoria
Download the PDF flier from the ACKMA home page.
"Conferences on Cave and Karst Management have been held in the Australia and New Zealand region since 1973,
now run by the Australasian Cave & Karst Management Association (ACKMA) - which is the professional
association of cave and karst managers in the region. Conferences are held every two years, and draw attendees
from across the Asia-Pacific Region, North America and Europe. Conferences feature paper presentations,
workshops and field trips."
"Themes for the 17th ACKMA Conference will centre on the Indigenous and European cultural heritage and hence
significance of Caves, with Buchan providing an outstanding example. However, papers and discussion on any
aspects of cave tourism and management will also be most welcome."

Notices from the Programme Organiser
Are you going caving?
Tell me about it! Not sure of your dates yet or exactly where
you might go? Well, STILL tell me about it - I act as a contact for people who want
to get away. Moreover, keep an eye on this web page - trips are sometimes advertised that don’t make the
Nargun deadlines. I am also keen to hear of ideas for meeting topics.
Do you have a particular area you would like to hear someone speak on?
What Consistutes A Club Trip
The only trip with ASF public liability insurance cover is a "club trip". To be a
"club trip" it must be registered with Programme Organiser.
Notification can be by phone, mail or email and should include:
- Who is going (you may initially register with only the names known at the time of planning,
but you must eventually tell the Programme Organiser who all the participants are). If some are
not VSA members, then record who they're insured through (such as another club, ASF,
private insurance etc.),
- Where you plan to go (general location, not necessarily specific caves),
- When (precise dates).
As per the VSA Administration Guidelines, trip leaders must be full members and there
must be a minimum of 3 participants. All members must be covered by ASF insurance
(as as member of VSA, ASF, or another ASF corporate member club which participates in the ASF insurance scheme) OR
have their own verifiable public liability cover.
Potential participants should contact the trip leader / organiser before the trip, not just turn up.
In order to plan properly, organisers need to know in reasonable time whether people want to come, how many,
and who they are. Otherwise the trip may lapse. They also need to be able to tell the Programme Organiser who's
coming - otherwise you won't be covered by insurance.
(The above is a summary of an article published in Nargun 35(4):32, October 2002)
Trips planned - Dates to be advised
Some trips are being organised on a continuing basis, but often at short notice
and without the opportunity to advertise them in Nargun. Potential participants
should contact the leaders to express their interest, and to find out when the next
trip is on.
